I am very excited about the progress we have made in developing a plan to help L.A. County and Ventura County students. It is essential that students be technically savvy in order to effectively compete in the job markets of today and tomorrow. I want to support, encourage and invest in those students who choose to take hold of this opportunity so they can achieve their highest goals.
Let's face it, simply operating a cell phone can be a challenge at times for some. Today's cell phones allow you to take pictures, shoot video's, send and receive text messages, send and receive e-mail, surf the web, play games and download and run applications and, yes, even place and receive phone calls! All of this capability fits in my palm! Like it or not, technology is here to stay, and that is why Paradox Community Technologies, Inc. (Paradox CT) is here. Our primary focus is to provide computers to low-income students and families who need them. With our relationship with Microsoft Corporation, and the generous donations of computers, money and time from our partners, we are able to provide low cost, quality computers to those who truly need them. Through collaboration with such nonprofit partner organizations such as Fillmore Family Resource Center and Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) at our local colleges, and many others, qualified students can receive computers.
I am reminded of a college engineering student who came to pick up a computer. He had been struggling to finish his work because the college and libraries did not stay open late enough for him to get what he needed done. Even when they were open, there was no guarantee that he would have access to a computer because of time limits on the shared systems. Because he was able to obtain a personal computer from Paradox CT, he was able to complete his work more effectively and more efficiently. We at Paradox CT are proud to serve our community with valuable, life-affecting services and look forward to helping as many as are ready to grab the opportunity!
Paradox Community Technologies, Inc. (Paradox CT) is a 501 C(3) nonprofit organization based in Southern California in Ventura County. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and citrus orchards, yet our community has some of the lowest income residents in Ventura County. Families work hard to survive and send their children to school but often can’t afford the tools
needed at home to enable their children to complete their assignments in this ever-increasing technology-driven world. Paradox CT was born out of this need.
Heidi, a young mother, wanted to make a positive change in her life. She was working full-time, going to school, raising her son and trying to complete her homework at night. Schools and libraries were closed in the evening. Many times. Heidi was at our house until 2:00 a.m. completing papers. She did not have the resources to purchase her own computer and printer, nor did she have the training needed to use them effectively.
Looking for a solution (and a full night’s sleep) we thought there must be someone willing to donate a used computer. We were right! A family was willing to donate their computer along with the necessary software and a printer so that Heidi could complete her work. After some basic training from Paradox CT, Heidi was up and running. Because of the donated computer and the work of Paradox CT, she was able to do her schoolwork at home, spend time with her son and ultimately graduate!
